Our coaching staff has over 50 years of combined experience in the game of basketball.  As the game of basketball is rapidly growing and becoming more competitive so must the players.  Our system of training is committed to developing a player's character, understanding of the game, in addition to their individual and team skills.  Contact Coach Briggs for more information on how our program can benefit your child.

Founder/Director of Basketball Operations
Coach Raymond Briggs 

Coach Briggs is the Founder and Director for the San Antonio Jayhawks Basketball Program. Coach Briggs is a native of the state of Kansas and moved to San Antonio in 2001 to play basketball for UTSA. He has always had a passion in working with youth through sports and upon graduating in 2004 with a degree in Sociology he has continued to pursue his passion in using basketball as a vehicle to develop young people for success.

Program Coordinater/Trainer

Coach Ky O'Dell

Coach O'Dell is also from the state of Kansas and has been working with the youth in the San Antonio community for the past 7 years.  Upon receiving an athletic scholarship and graduating from St. Mary's University, Coach O'Dell has continued to give back to the game in the area of player skills and team development.  His background includes 3 years of High School Varsity Basketball, 1 year starting point guard at Independence Community College in Independence, KS (one of the top Junior College leagues in the nation), and 3 years starting point guard for Saint Marys University in San Antonio, TX (NCAA Div.II).  Coaching experience includes numerous summer camps, 7 years having a summer travel team, 1 year of coaching experience on the college level at Tyler Community College in Tyler, TX, 2 years as the Varsity head coach for First Baptist Academy in Universal City, TX, and current Junior Varsity and assistant Varsity coach at Antonion High School .  Coach O'Dell grew up the son and grandson of coaches and has been a student of the game since a young age.  He has been blessed to learn the game and continue to learn from many great coaches such as Jerry Mullens (basketball talent scout) and Buddy Meyer (former head coach St Marys University).  His dedication to having a positive influence on young peoples lives, plus developing basketball players and teams has allowed Coach O'Dell to be recognized as one of the top youth development coaches in the San Antonio Community.


Coach Eric Villarreal
Coach Erik Villarreal

     Accomplishments:
  • Three years All District selection - Clark High School Point Guard
  • 2004 - Led All 5A High Schools in Assists

  • 2006 - Point guard Div III Junior College National Champions, North Lake Col. Arlington TX

  • 2008 - Point guard for Dallas Baptist University. Season high game: 16 pts. 9 assist vs. Texas State

     Coach Villarreal is a San Antonio native, played high school basketball at Clark High school, where he first met Coach Ky O'dell.  He then moved on to play at North Lake College, a junior college in the Dallas area where he helped lead the program to its first ever National Championship. The following year he attended and completed his basketball career at Dallas Baptist University (A Division II program).
     Coach Eric first met Raymond Briggs during while conducting basketball camps in the San Antonio area and has more than 5 years of experience in player skill development. Coach Eric was mentored by Hoopdamental instructor, Walter Kramer, who personally trained Eric for over eight years.
     In addition to Coaching the Jayhawks for the last two years, he is completing a history/social studies degree at UTSA.

  Coach Roland Ware

Coach Ware brings a major amount of experience and credabilty to the San Antonio Jayhawks.  He has 15 years experience as the head coach, associate head coach and assistant coach of highly competitive basketball teams for quality NCAA men’s intercollegiate, AAU and high school athletic programs. A successful track record for graduating student-athletes (97%), managing athletic programs, recruiting, and developing talent at each level.



·     Coached basketball teams that qualified for post-season play each year and finished no less than third in the conference, including a regional championship, NCAA tournament Elite Eight birth and an AAU National Senior Men’s runner-up finish.

·     Coached, recruited and developed 24 All-Academic, 13 All Conference/Region First Team and numerous professional players.

·     Member of the National Basketball Coaches Association, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Association, and Texas High School Coaches Association.
